United Network for Justice and Peace in Palestine and Israel
2022 Gathering
Responding toA Cry for Hope
Friends, We very much hope you will set aside May 5-8 to gather together in London, Ontario. UNJPPI is acting in hope that the pandemic will subside by the beginning of May. It’s been a tough time for all of us and we want to be able to celebrate our connectedness and our commitment to justice in the holy land. We’ve named the gathering, “Responding to the Cry for Hope..”
WHEN
The gathering starts just after lunch on Friday, May 6th and ends at lunchtime on Sunday, May 8th. On Thursday night, May 5th, we will hold an event aimed at the community in south western Ontario focused on the Israeli military treatment of Palestinian children. We hope to have a representative from Defense for Children International Palestine (DCIP) and folks from Canada, Stand Up for Palestinian Children’s Rights speaking. We will also invite the three MPs from the area. Please mark this on your calendar. We’re hoping for a good turn out and we are trying to entice newcomers to join us as well. If you are connected with Palestinians who might be interested in participating, please invite them to accompany you to this event.
WHAT
Most of our leadership will be Palestinian as we try to decolonize our work and listen to Palestinians talk to us out of our experience. They include:
Yara Shufani – who is the Executive Director of Canadian Friends of Sabeel.
Shadia - whose home is Nazareth and who has been in Canada since 2020. She is studying at Vancouver School of Theology and has much experience in working with organizations in Israel and East Jerusalem.
Amal who has recently emigrated from Gaza.
We will bring Munther Isaac, from Bethlehem, in via technology.
Gabor Mate will also address our gathering online.
